I have two filing cabinets..here is a link to what they look like

i want to make a desk out of them but i am not sure about what i should use as my desktop…
i have seen shows where they used old doors or plywood
have any of you ever done this…how would i go about it?
or do you know of a place where i could buy a desk top
hey great idea about the door knob hole being used for cords! I am going to lowes to look for a door now. Do you think the desk will be unstable if my Filing Cabinets arent as deep as the door? b/c they are only like 20in deep.

Purchase a 30" door (even drilled for knob…makes a great hole for computer cables, etc). Set on cabinets, a few coats of polyurethane varnish and you have a great desk (about 7′ long, 30" deep).

Use a fine file when filing plastic laminate or a Formica edge on cabinets or a counter top. This video shows exactly how to do this properly. It’s important to practice before you actually work on the finished product. One of the most important things to know about working with mica is never pull or push the file in the direction of the color. If you do this it will chip the laminate. A good brand name of file is called a Plasti-Cut Mill File and you should start with a 12 size. If you have an older one that is somewhat dull use it. This will help keep you from over filing. If your using a new Plasti-Cut be extra careful because it is going to be very sharp.

Bit of a boring question but at work we keep HR files etc in a filing cabinet. The files we have at the moment fit nicely in the hanging dividers but you can’t add things to them easily. Anyone know of any ring binder type files that we could fit in the filing cabinet?

Certainly there are binders meant to hang in file cabinets. Also, hanging box-bottom folders, as well as other types of subdivided folders. See www.businessessentials.biz, or your local office supplier.
