Can a filing cabinet be suitable for storing stuff other than documents?

For examples, DVDs (in cases), cables and other random bits? I assume Filing Cabinets have sections inside meant for sorting A4 files but these are possible to remove?
Filing cabinets are basically empty anyway. They should be better than drawers for storing heavy items but you may need to put them in boxes first as most cabinet drawers do not have sides that go all the way to the top
